"Slipping on Spilt Paint" - Gary JohnSolo Exhibition at Wallspace Artist Reception Saturday March 14th 6-9pm. March 14th - April 11th Wallspace 607 North La Brea, Los Angeles CA 90036 Wallspace is pleased to present the solo exhibition "Slipping on Spilt Paint" by Gary John, with an artist reception Saturday March 14th from 6-9pm. Gary John has been a street artist since 1985. Originally from Seattle, WA he moved to Venice Beach in 2004 and began selling his art on the boardwalk. Along with American pop culture & comic books, John cites the work of Picasso, Keith Haring and Basquiat as his artistic inspirations. After 10 years on the boardwalk and experiencing "a bout with homelessness," John exploded onto the International Art Scene first at Art Basel Miami in 2013. John's playfully bold work quickly gained attention and he was named one of 20 standout artists at the 2014 NY Affordable Art Fair. He continues to show consistently on the art fair circuit here in America and now also shows in Europe. "Art is my passion. There is not enough time in the day to do all the painting I want to do. I'm consumed with it," John says. "It's been a crazy journey. I was a street artist, and I will always be a street artist." Wallspace is a dynamic gallery on La Brea that shows art in a non-conventional setting. Hung salon style on 14' high walls, the gallery's aim is to create a floor-to-ceiling visceral experience representing emerging and more established Los Angeles based artists. "Gary's work is exciting and bold and I admire his fearlessness and that he has no artistic boundaries. Wallspace is all about representing strong, emerging artists and I am very excited to be hosting Gary's first solo show here in Los Angeles," says Valda Lake owner of Wallspace. "It will be quite an installation with a large number of pieces of Gary's artwork." Please RSVP to art@wallspacela.com |
