"Among the Aspens" Video Installation Artist Reception Saturday 7th January 2017, 7-9pm Wallspace is proud to present “Among the Aspens,” a video installation by artist Bianca Greene. Bianca Greene is an emerging, multi-media Los Angeles-based artist. Greene has a background in visual art installation and photography, and is a recent graduate of Lake Forest College with a degree in studio art. She has spent the last four years traveling the world, learning from different cultures and formulating an artistic philosophy steeped in a desire to express unifying truths about the human experience. Her organic abstract line drawings and wood block work stem from pre-existing natural forms found in wood. Greene excavates these patterns in order to draw a cosmic map of ourselves and the world around us. Recently, her exploration has evolved into installations that encompass wood and video. Bonding wood and video together, she deconstructs aspects of nature, exposing its hidden internal truths. Her own deconstructive processes inform these installations as she tries to uncover truths about her human experience. Greene’s thoughts, feelings and physical environments are at the root of conception within each installation. The installation “Among the Aspens” imagines the gallery Wallspace sitting on the bank of the ever-flowing La Brea River. Greene hopes to surround the viewer by juxtaposing the hustle of the city street with the sounds of nature, breath and snow-muffled landscapes. The juxtaposition also poses the question of why one had to step inside a gallery in order to encounter a ‘breath of fresh air’. "In our current climate, our connection to nature is of grave importance. If we lose our connection to the earth, we lose our connection to life itself,” Greene said "Among the Aspens" is a simulation of nature that stands as an access point to our natural world, so that we never forget the importance of our connection to this planet and its elements. “Among the Aspens” opens Saturday January 7th at Wallspace with an opening reception from 7-9 pm. The installation will continue to be visible curbside on La Brea through until January 22nd from dusk until daylight. Wallspace is a dynamic gallery on La Brea that shows art in a non-conventional setting. Hung salon style on 14' high walls, the gallery aims to create a floor-to-ceiling visceral experience. We are excited about finding new visions and contributing to the launch of careers, whilst also representing more established Los Angeles-based artists.
