Wallspace is proud to present ‘Domestic Recipes’ and Other Stories, a solo show by artist Trevor Norris.

Blocks can build walls. Blocks can build bridges. Our histories are set in stone. Or are they? We each have a colorful history constantly revived and revised by our present. Our experiences always rework our perceptions, like a jigsaw puzzle yet to be built. Our consciousness wanders like a gypsy soul. It is here Trevor Norris tells his story, through layers of shapes and paint, reworking his literary narrative, finding order in disorder, and meaning in what is not said.

A vibrant dark haired, olive-skinned woman and her riotous ways brought waves of intensity and passion into their neatly boxed English row house, and became her son's eternal maternal muse. "She expressed herself emotionally with more intensity and volume than most of our translucent neighbors could handle," Norris has said about his mother. Norris excavates and brings to life his memories on paper and canvas like one might reopen a rich and saturated novel between a hardcover bounded book.

Norris sites endless catalysts for his creative rebirths; from performing, to flourishing in the LBGTQ community, exploring the California coastline and its many ethnic enclaves and urban alcoves, to the awe of natural beauty, each geometrically defining his story, and that of others in the most colorful and ephemeral way. Narratives and text on each piece are covered in layers of shapes and paint until they are almost illegible. The piece becomes more about the paint's visceral interaction with the viewer and less about the words.

Wallspace is a dynamic gallery on La Brea that shows art in a non-conventional setting. Hung salon style on 14' high walls, the gallery aims to create a floor-to-ceiling visceral experience. We are excited about finding new visions and contributing to the launch of careers whilst also representing more establishesd Los Angeles based artists. We regularly present solo shows and have a permanent rotating collection of art on view.
